SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) -- No, those aren't Tide pods you're looking at, though we definitely did a double take.
Scotland-based whisky brand The Glenlivet has created "glassless" alcohol capsules made from sea-weed extract casing, a first-of-its-kind feat that is both strange and exciting. There's no need for a glass, ice or stirrer -- all you have to do is pop the capsule in your mouth and simply swallow!
Glenlivet partnered with Tayr + Elementary, one of the world's leading bars, to create three cocktail options: citrus, wood and spice. The brand says the casing is biodegradable, meaning if a capsule is discarded, it'll naturally break down in four to six weeks.
“As a brand that celebrates originality, we are always looking to break the conventions that have determined how single malt Scotch has historically been enjoyed," Miriam Eceolaza, Director of The Glenlivet, in a press release. "The Glenlivet Capsule Collection does exactly that, and we’re excited to see how people react when they try our glassless cocktails. Our founder, George Smith, always went against the grain, bucking tradition and doing things differently."
The capsules are currently only available in the United Kingdom.
